Yuba-Wheatland Canal Project
The Yuba-Wheatland Canal Project will supply surface water from the YCWA Main Canal to agricultural lands within Wheatland Water District (WWD) and Brophy Water District (BWD) in southern Yuba County.
This new surface water supply will improve the water quality and reliability of the water supply to farmers who mainly rely on groundwater to grow crops such as fruit, nuts, rice and pasture for cattle. The project will also help to recharge depleted groundwater aquifers and provide opportunity for conjunctive use of surface and groundwater supplies to enhance the reliability of YCWA’s water system.
Key elements of the project are as follows:
1. Approximately 8.5 miles of new unlined irrigation canal.
2. Four stream crossings and three road crossings via buried pipelines.
3. Three pump stations.
4. Turnouts and laterals for water delivery.
This project is financed by YCWA, Wheatland Water District and a grant from the water conservation and groundwater recharge grant program administered by the State of California Department of Water Resources.
